5 Majestic Waterfalls in Cagayan de Oro City

1. Puntol Falls

It‘s a hidden paradise not everybody could experience unless you are willing to do the trekking. A 360 degrees grand view of the mountains, valleys, forests, rivers, and springs.

Getting there:
The same with Mintugsok Falls Route, Puntol Falls is just a short trek upstream from Mintugsok Falls.

From Mapawa Nature Park, just follow the Mapawa Mintugsok Access Road. Before reaching the Mintugsok Falls, you will find the stream along the road. No, it is not the Mapawa Stream where the water cascades to Mintugsok Falls. It is the other stream called Mapawa-Bigaan Stream that flows from the Gango, Libona area.

2. Mintugsok Falls

Located in Malasag and Indahag mountain, a stunning view lay at the hidden paradise of Malasag is Mintugsok Falls. The falls itself is so majestic plus the stone formation that surrounds it adds awe in the view.

Getting there:
Mintugsok can be accessed from Mapawa Park, riding a habal-habal at the highway in Barangay Cugman going to Mapawa Nature Park, once you reach the park you can start river trekking following the stream down and it will lead you to the Mintugsok Falls.

We’ve also tried the river trekking from the Bigaan River in Gusa going upstream to the Mintugsok Falls (You might need a guide on this route).

3. F.S. Catanico Falls

Located in Barangay F.S. Catanico, a 20-minute drive away from the heart of the city, a hidden paradise in ambient and cool surroundings. The City Government has been trying to develop the place but until now there are only very few changes being made in the area. There are picnic huts that you can rent and toilet facilities. But for the environmentalists, they rather want it undeveloped and leave it as is to preserve the beauty of the falls.

Getting there:
Hire a Habal-habal at the main road of Cugman Highway going to FS Catanico following the Cugman River on the left side of the road, make sure to make an arrangement with the driver for your return trip because there will be no public transportation from there going back to the main road. The habal-habal driver will drop you off to the entrance area where you need to walk a few meters to reach the falls.

4. Palalan Falls / Manlumot Falls

Manlumot Falls located in Sitio Palalan, Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City, 7 kilometers from the National Highway, within the ancestral domain of Datu Makapanton.

Getting there:
Hire a habal-habal ride at the National Highway where the access road to Nestle is located, going to Sitio Palalan, then from Palalan you start the trek going to Manlumot Falls where you need to pass by Datu Makapanton’s house to ask permission to enter their ancestral domain. From the Datu’s house, walk 10 minutes further to reach the falls.

5. Sinulom Falls

Located along the boundaries of Talakag, Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City, it has 28 falls flowing from the walls of Brgy. San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon but best viewed from the other side of the river in Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City, the access land is a privately owned land by City Councilor Jay Roa Pascual located at Brgy. Tambo, Tignapoloan. The name of the place is derived from the word Sulom, which means black ants.

Yes, the falls is part of Talakag, Bukidnon (As what a certain Icy Neri claimed on our FB Page comment) and we pointed that out on the article that it is part of Talakag. We've been there, but there's no way you can enjoy Sinulom Falls thru Talakag, because the access road to view it is in Tignapoloan. So, for tourism purposes, we posted on our FB Page that Sinulom Falls is located in Brgy. Tignapoloan, CDO not Talakag.

We even went to Bulaw Spring, a natural hidden spring which is also located in Talakag just few hundred meters away from Sinulom and passed by above Sinulom Falls and we can't even enjoy a bit of Sinulom Falls from there, thus promoting Sinulom Falls is in Talakag is useless for tourism purposes. Ideally, SINULOM FALLS is in TIGNAPOLOAN, CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY.

Getting there:
Ride a van or jeepney at Carmen Market in CDO. Ask the driver to stop at the highway crossing to Tignapoloan at Barangay Dansolihon, then from there, you can ride a habal-habal going to Sitio Impakebel.
