Biking is gaining momentum as one of the fastest-growing modes of transportation and recreational sports in the Philippines. While many people bike primarily for recreational activities like road racing, mountain biking, and leisurely cycling, others use it as an alternative mode of transportation. However, due to the dominance of motorized traffic and the lack of biking infrastructure for protection, biking has been limited to local neighborhoods and rural towns.
The COVID-19 pandemic has further popularized biking in the Philippines since most public transportation was suspended and restricted. Biking became an alternative mode of transportation and a way for Filipinos to enjoy recreational activities in a safe and convenient way.
As part of this initiative, the Department of Tourism Regional Office 10 launched the Bike NorthMin campaign yesterday, May 13, 2023, at the Activity Center of Ayala Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City at 5:00 PM. The event featured various activities and attractions that showcased the benefits of biking and the different biking routes and destinations available in the region.
The objective of Bike NorthMin is to promote bike tourism and encourage locals and tourists alike to explore the region's ecotourism destinations on two wheels that are more sustainable and eco-friendly. The launch also aims to encourage bike enthusiasts to join and enjoy the activities DOT-10 has prepared this year for this initiative, especially the forthcoming Camiguin Isle Bike Tour on May 28, 2023.
The Camiguin Isle Bike Tour is one of the most exciting events planned for this campaign. It aims to showcase the beauty and wonders of Camiguin Island through biking, promoting eco-tourism and sustainable travel in the area. Bikers can appreciate the island's unique natural attractions, such as its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush vegetation, all while exploring on two wheels.
The Bike NorthMin campaign promotes biking as a sustainable and eco-friendly mode of transportation and a fun recreational activity.
