CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 22 -- Xavier University (XU), through its Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts (XCCA), and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) have opened the application period for the fourth installment of Sulat Dula Playwriting Workshop in Mindanao, slated on November 17 to 19 at XU-Audio Visual Rooms (AVRs).
Ten slots will be allotted for aspiring Mindanao-based playwrights whose works are not yet staged and published.
This year, NCCA supports Sulat Dula through its Speakers Bureau. The 2016 Sulat Dula panel is composed of multi-awarded playwrights Dr Steven Patrick Fernandez, Rodolfo “Rody” Vera, and Prof Layeta Bucoy, who will also serve as mentors of the ten fellows.
Established in 2008, Sulat Dula is a biennial workshop that forms part of the Artistic Excellence Program of XCCA and it aims to sustain a playwriting development program in the second biggest island in the country.
Interested applicants must submit the following requirements: one-page synopsis of the play; complete and original manuscript of a one-act play; certification of originality (from any authority); comprehensive résumé with 2x2 ID picture; and photocopy of the certificate of residency.
Deadline of submission is on October 1, until 12 noon only.
Plays written in Cebuano and other regional languages must have either a Filipino or English translation.
