Procession of the Black Nazarene in CDO, Success!

After the procession, people are still lining up just to have the opportunity to touch the replica of the Black Nazarene inside the Nazareno Church of Cagayan de Oro City. Even after the Feast of the Black Nazarene, everyone can still touch and pray the Replica of the Black Nazarene inside the Nazareno Church all year round.

In spite of the bad weather brought by Tropical Depression Auring, thousands of devotees attended the Procession of the Black Nazarene in Cagayan de Oro City. The event started with a high mass at the Pelaez Sports Center around 4 in the Morning of January 9 and headed from Velez Street to Licoan, then turned at the Gaabucayan Street, straight ahead to Agora Terminal heading to C.M. Recto Avenue until they reached the Nazareno Church besides Gaisano Mall as the end point of the procession.

Few days before the Procession, there have been threat to security against the Procession of the Black Nazarene in Cagayan de Oro City. So, the concerned government agency together with the police department of CDO and the 4th Infantry Division of Philippines army took precaution for the success of the event, which happened around 4AM til 8AM of January 9th.

Part of the precautionary measure taken was to prohibit everyone joining the procession to wear caps, hats, helmets and sunglasses. Also, the CDRRMO said the National Telecommunications Commission have directed Globe and Smart companies to suspend their mobile services until the procession of the Black Nazarene will end, in order to prevent the use of cellphones for detonation of bombs if there are any. There have been information from credible sources that terrorist groups will plant IEDs along the procession routes. So far, while the procession was on-going, I have a full signal of my cellphone all the time.

So, despite of the previous announcement about jamming the Cellular signals around CDO, it didn’t happen at all. Sources said that Globe and Smart companies did not received any directive from National Telecommunications Commission to jam their signal. Oh boy… someone did not do their job satisfactorily.

Flying of drones along the procession was also prohibited, well, considering the weather this morning, no one will surely want to fly their high valued drones in the rain. But we’ve only seen 2 military planes flying around the city during the event  and of course Police and Military personnel around the area to make sure the security of everyone.

Traffic was not a problem after the procession of the Black Nazarene in CDO

Smooth traffic flows after the event. Few years ago the procession of the Black Nazarene in CDO has been held during the afternoon until the evening, which caused heavy traffic jam around the City during those events. 2 years ago, they changed the schedule into early morning until the start of the morning rush hour to prevent heavy traffic jam around the event area.
