It’s the month of August. People are excited to celebrate the city fiesta which will happen on the 28th of this month. During this season, a large number of tourists are expected, banderitas will be visible along the main streets of the city. Vibrant colors painted the city as decorations bloom on every corner of some major attractions.
Activities to experience during CDO Fiesta
All month long of August, you can visit the Gaston Park located near the Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral, to experience Garden Show and Agri Fair. It is like bringing the products of the region in one convention, to showcase it to the visitors.
If you want some cowboy adventure, try Cowboy Festival on August 18-20 at the Uptown area near SM Mall. It is an annual Horse Show where cowboys compete for events such as Barrel Race, Obstacle Race, Oval Race, Pole Bending and you can even ride horses for a minimum fee to experience what it feels to be a cowboy.
For the runners, how about joining the Kagay-an Festival Marathon 2017 on August 20, where you can run on selected races such as 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K. Race location will be at Centrio Mall, Capt. Vicente Roa, Cagayan De Oro City. On the same day, during the afternoon, Cagayan Carnival Street Dance Competition will be held along Luna and Velez Streets. A synchronized chanting, shouting and dancing to the beat of a carnival party music! Here you can also join the dancers as they dances along the street. The street will be filled with colorful carnival costume, so make sure to match them with your outfit.
On the 26th of August, be stunned by the beauty of the 12 lovely candidates of the Miss Cagayan de Oro 2017 as they vie for the crown and title which will be held at The Atrium of Limketkai Center. On the following day, you need to wake up earlier because another street activity will be held as the Higalaay Street Parade and Floats happen. It’s a parade of everything in Cagayan de Oro City.
On the 28th, it is the fiesta Celebration. A fluvial procession will be held in the morning at the Macajalar Bay going upstream along the Cagayan de Oro River to Duaw Park, it is a procession by the river involving different barangays of the City in celebration of the Feast of St. Augustine on Aug. 28, where entries decorates their boats with colors, flowers, etc. On the same day during the night, people in the city will be gathering at the Uptown area particularly at the Pueblo de Oro Business Park to witness the grand Kagay-an Pyro Musical Festival, a fireworks display competition involving different cities, groups and companies. It is a grand fireworks display that all Kagay-anons been waiting for every year and most Kagay-anons consider it as the culmination of the Higalaay Festival.

There are daily flights by domestic and budget carriers from Manila and Cebu to the Laguindingan Airport. There are also once or twice a week flights from different cities to CDO, it depends on the schedule of the carriers.
By Land:
Cagayan de Oro is a major hub in the provincial bus network.
Between CDO’s two bus terminals -Market City (Agora) Bus Terminal, Bulua Westbound Bus Terminal – you can arrive at or depart for most of the major Minadanaoan destinations.
By Sea
The Cagayan de Oro sea port is one of the most active docks in the Philippines.
There are regular ship and ferry trips between CDO and other major Philippine ports, like Manila, Ilo-ilo, Bohol and Cebu.
GETTING AROUND
Bus, jeepneys, taxis, multi-cab and the motorela are the main mode of land transportation within the city. White and yellow colored air-conditioned taxis with meters installed, and car rentals are also available.

Those things that I mentioned above are just a few that you can do in Cagayan de Oro City, so please don’t just focus on the things that I wrote. Be bold, be free to explore the city. One thing that I can advice for travelers in the city of Golden Friendship is to be adventurous, you can try other things other than the recommended, because you might discover great adventure on your own or you can ask some locals. There are also springs, falls, beautiful beaches and resorts that you can try. I’ll update about them soon here, so watch out for it.
