La Prisha de Jamela's Farm and Golda's Place - Newest Mountain View Destination in Northern Mindanao

This is the newest mountain view destination in Northern Mindanao, the La Prisha de Jamela's Farm and Golda's Place - The two places are just situated side by side on that very same spot with a majestic mountain ranges view in Kalingking, Malitbog, Bukidnon.

It has gone viral on social media last weekend and since we have nothing to do, we decided to explore the place without planning last Saturday and we jumped into an adventure even though we don't know the exact location of the place. All we knew was it is located in Kalingking, Malitbog.

We hopped into our friend's pickup truck and just follow the road from Santa Ana, Tagoloan going to Malitbog area. Approaching Malitbog, you will be welcomed with great mountain views along the winding roads. Since we were not sure of the exact location, we just tried looking for signs of the place and asked some locals to where the place is located... until we reached a crossing where there is a road sign direction of La Prisha de Jamela's Farm and Golda's Place.

From the highway, it is around 4 kilometers of rough road travel going up to the hills of Kalingking, Malitbog. But when you reached the place, you will be amazed of the wonderful mountain view of Bukidnon, including the Mount Kitanglad silhouette in the background of the scenic Manolo Fortich mountain ridges and Lawis Grand Canyon of the Tagoaloan River, and the Mount Balatukan on the other side and you can even see the Cagayan de Oro City and Tagoloan proper from afar to the North.

We arrived around 5 in the afternoon to witness the sunset and it was indeed so beautiful.

But we decided to stay for the night and set up our tent to camp and stay overnight so that we can also witness how the view looks like during sunrise in the morning and indeed, it is equally beautiful with what it looks like during the sunset.

But there is a bonus treat if you can still stay up late with the very cold weather at night because it is a perfect time for stargazing as there are only a few light pollutions in the area and you can clearly enjoy the stars and the galaxy view up in the sky. (Check out the night sky photo below to see how it looks like. We can't get a good photo like this with our Camera Phones so we just refer you the photo posted by Bukidnon Travels FB Page.)

So, when you are planning to spend an overnight at La Prisha de Jamela's Farm and Golda's Place, be sure to pack your jackets, pajamas, and blankets because it is really cold during the night. The cold strong wind will make you chill if you are only wearing light clothes.

They have tents for rent for only 350 pesos overnight, but if you have your own tent, you can still use it but they will still collect payment of 250 pesos, but we haggle down the price into 100 pesos for each tent we brought. They also serve breakfast for only 120 pesos with hot coffee but you can bring your own packed meal and drinks. The people at Golda's Place are very accommodating and we really enjoyed our overnight stay there and would love to keep coming back for a weekend overnight there.

For more info, you may contact them at their Facebook account at

Mindanao Railway Construction Will Finally Starts in the 1st Quarter of 2020

There has been delayed in construction of the Mindanao Railway Project since 2018 and it is already 2020! With just a couple of years left under Duterte's administration, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade wants to assure everyone that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is working at top speed, especially for the ongoing and remaining projects. One of which is the Mindanao Railway System, of which construction would begin in the first quarter of this year.

Construction of the first segment of the country’s first train system outside Luzon will start first quarter this year (2020) and is expected to be completed by end of 2021, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr). DOTr Assistant Secretary for railways and Mindanao projects Eymard Eje said bidding for the construction of the first phase of the Mindanao Railway Project was scheduled in November 2019, with the project’s groundbreaking set by early this year.

Phase 1 of the Mindanao Railway Project is the 102-km Mindanao Railway Project: Tagum-Davao-Digos (MRP-TDD) segment is the first of the 3 segments of the Mindanao Railway Project. “The P35.91 billion MRP-TDD will make travel time faster by two (2) hours, with a frequency of trips of up to 6 trains per hour,” says DOTr Undersecretary for Rails, Cesar Chavez.

The MRP-TDD is expected to not only make travel faster but also safer, more convenient and comfortable for passengers in the said corridor. It will have 8 stations, namely: Tagum; Carmen; Panabo; Mudiang; Davao Terminal; Toril; Sta. Cruz; and Digos. A 10-hectare depot will be built in Tagum. The railway system is designed to accommodate around 110,000 passengers daily in its opening year.

The rail line will be built with a single track, with provisions for future tracks and electrification. It will have six 5-car passenger trains (Diesel Multiple Units) with 3 spare cars, 4 locomotives, and 15 freight cars.

The Mindanao railway project in its entirety will consist of 1,532 circumferential and spur lines that will connect Davao provinces, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos City, and Zamboanga.

Mindanao Railway: Delayed!

The Mindanao Railway, however, has been set back by changes in its basic plan. Transportation Secretary Arturo Tugade said last year that he wanted double-tracks instead of single, standard tracks instead of narrow and electric trains instead of diesel. This is the modern train project now underway in Central Luzon, he said. Mindanao should have the same.

Well, since we are constructing a railway system in this era, it is just right to construct it with the latest technology. Mindanao is not different from Luzon, so what the government can do with Luzon is also possible in Mindanao and once the Mindanao Railway Project will be completed, it will give significant changes in Mindanao, in terms of economic, transportation, and tourism.

In a social media post, Mindanao Development Authority chairman and former Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol said he had asked the consultants and planners of the project to consider the coastal areas of Surigao down to Davao Occidental and Sultan Kudarat province as both coastal regions could be transformed into major food production and tourism areas if connected to the railway system.

He said the Mindanao Development Authority would provide the consultants a commodity map of Mindanao to help them identify key production areas on the island.

Mindanao Railway, a Big Help for Farmers in Mindanao

Mindanao wouldn't be the neglected land anymore and more and more places in Mindanao will be discovered and its potential will be explored. Crops and products will be distributed in just a short time, unlike at the current state where farmers are having a hard time to deliver their crops and harvests to the market because of the slow and lack of basic transportation.

Mindanao Railway Will Open the Gateway to Different Tourist Spots in Mindanao

Exploring the beautiful beaches in Mati, Davao del Sur will be possible on a short journey from anywhere in Mindanao. Or taking a relaxing weekend getaway at Cagwait White Beach in Surigao del Sur is just an hour journey from Cagayan de Oro City which can be reached for about 6-8 hours in today's bus transportation system.

Cagwait White Beach, Surigao del Sur
Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig, Surigao del Sur will only be a few hours travel from Davao, CDO or Butuan. Surfing in Siargao can be a weekend hobby of the Cagay-anons or Davaoeños because reaching Surigao City to ride a ferry to Siargao Island is just a 2-hour journey which at the current state of transportation can take you a tiring 8-10 hours land travel.

Surfing in Siargao Island

Zamboanga can be reached from CDO for only 3-4 hours from the current travel time via a bus of 10-14 hours. Exploring the Lake Sebu and Seven Falls in South Cotabato will be very convenient when traveling from anywhere in Mindanao.

Punta Isla, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato
You will see the fast progress in Mindanao in all aspects when the railway system comes to its completion because the only hindrance of Mindanao to obtain its potential is the current transportation system that we have had. We are all hoping to see a progressive Mindanao in the coming years when all the phases of the Mindanao Railway System will be completed.

7th Kuyamis Festival - A Thanksgiving and Celebration of Culture and the People of Misamis Oriental

Staged every second week of January, Kuyamis Festival is being celebrated annually as a Founding Anniversary of Misamis Oriental. Kuyamis Festival is derived from the coconut, locally called "Kuyamis" which is very abundant all throughout Misamis Oriental, from the Municipality of Lugait in the west to the Municipality of Magsaysay in the east, coconut trees are very visible when you travel around the Province.

History revealed that Kuyamis is the original name of Misamis, it is a variety of sweet coconut. Which was the staple food of the earliest known Negritos settlers of Misamis. The word Kuyamis was later corrupted to Misamis when Christianity was yet new in the Philippines. One of the main sources of livelihood in the province is coconut production. Based on the data released by the Philippine Coconut Authority, Misamis Oriental ranks number 5 among the top 10 major coconut producers of the country, with 102,622 hectares planted with coconut that makes one of the remarkable economic contributions to the province of Misamis Oriental.

In fact, one of the export-oriented manufacturers of premium coconut products with a thrust of maximizing the almost limitless potential of the coconut and of developing a full line of fine coconut-based food ingredients is situated in the Municipality of Medina, Misamis Oriental - the Axelum Resources Corp. that produces the Fiesta Brands.

That is why Misamis Oriental takes its pride to celebrate the full potential of coconut as their main focus of the festival and of course together with its indigenous people. The Father of Kuyamis Festival, Governor Bambi Emano is right of giving honor to Kuyamis or the Coconut through this festival because it is one of the main sources of income to the province as it generates the province's export earnings. The festival is also a way of thanksgiving for the bountiful blessings the coconut continues to give to the province, the celebration of the rich culture and of course the people of Misamis Oriental.

So, right after our New Year celebrations, the fun doesn't end there because Misamis Oriental continues the fun and excitement with their series of activities for this year's Kuyamis Festival activities.

In an early as January 6, the Provincial Capitol of Misamis Oriental transforms into a colorful and vibrant facade as the Booth Competition opened and has been participated by the 23 municipalities and 2 component cities of Misamis Oriental, where they decorated their booths based on the theme by using indigenous materials made from coconuts, including the Farmer's Market where you can buy local products of Misamis Oriental.

You can also enjoy the Culture and the Arts Exhibit, which features the Misamis Oriental's Culture and Arts that are being displayed at the Centrio Ayala Mall's Activity Center which was also launched last January 6, 2020 and will last until January 10, 2020.

A festival is not complete if there's no Street Dancing, that is why the Kuyamis Festival Street Dance Competition is always on the top list of the events at the Kuyamis Festival's Calendar of Activities.

This year, there are 15 contingents competed for the grand champion title which was held at the Misamis Oriental Integrated Sports Complex yesterday, January 8, 2020 and the results are the following:

Best in Street Dancing: Municipality of Talisayan
Best in Story Line: Municipality of Talisayan
Best in Musicality: Municipality of Talisayan
Best in Costume: Municipality of Sugbongcogon
Best in Choreography: Municipality of Talisayan

3rd Place: Gingoog City
2nd Place: Municipality of Balingoan
Grand Winner: Municipality of Talisayan

And of course, they are not going to end the festival without crowning a queen. Just December of 2019, the 21 lovely candidates for the Miss Kuyamis 2020 have been presented and they will be competing for the crown tonight, January 9, 2020 at 7:00 PM at the newly constructed El Salvador City Gymnasium.

The fun doesn't end there because there are more fun activities all throughout the Kuyamis Festival week such as the following:
  • 2nd Gov. Bambi Emano Horse Show and Competition
  • Dog Fashion Show
  • Explore MisOr Mindanao Overland Expedition
  • the Autocross and Car Show
  • Coronation Night of the Queen of Misamis Oriental 2020 and of course...
  • the Kuyamis Festival Governor's Night and Awarding Ceremony at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.
So, what are you waiting for? Come and join the fun at the 7th Kuyamis Festival at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol and together let's Explore MisOr!

For more information about the series of activities of the Kuyamis Festival check out the schedule below:

Cagayan de Oro City Implemented FULL BAN on Plastic Use!

Cagayan de Oro City is now implementing the FULL BAN OF PLASTIC USE in all commercial establishments. Last year (January 2019) the ordinance was only a partial ban of the use of plastic especially the “single-use” plastic carry-on bags that goes on for a year to give residents and businesses more time to comply with the total plastic ban, the implementation is part of the City Ordinance 13378-2018 or the Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance. Since most of the commercial and residents of Cagayan de Oro City are now used to the partially implemented ordinance, it will now be easier to implement the full ban of plastic use in all commercial establishments.

So, starting January 1, 2020, the full implementation already started. According to Clenro chief Armen Cuenca, "full implementation means all the ban now includes transparent plastic wrappers." And including “fast food outlets, pharmacies, food kiosks, ‘sari-sari’ stores, and ambulant vendors” in the public markets. Cuenca also said that the only that time transparent plastic wrappers (cellophane) can be used is when buying meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables.

So, as a shopper, we can also help implement this ordinance fully by bringing our own reusable containers and eco-bags when buying groceries. It should be easy now since we already have files of eco-bags that we collected from last year's groceries and shopping. You can also opt to not pack our items when buying small goods that can be easily carried with our hands. That way we can save more paper bags and we can help preserve mother earth even with just little simple deeds.

Let's start it here in the City of Golden Friendship and become the model city in the country that totally bans single-use plastics.
