9 years ago today. Typhoon Pablo, ravaged Cagayan de Oro City a year later after Typhoon Sendong tore through Northern Mindanao, which affected a lot of Cagay-anons.
When kagay-anons learned that the eye of Typhoon Pablo - a Category 5 super typhoon with winds of 175 mph or 280 km/h will pass through Northern Mindanao, particularly in the vicinity of Cagayan De Oro City, Kagay-anons learned the lessons from Typhoon Sendong and every LGU in low-lying areas in the city, especially those along the river sides prepared and evacuated all the possible people in areas of concern, and people adhere to the evacuation calls.

Early morning of December 4, 2012, electric and water supply were interrupted due to cut power lines and contaminated production wells, and the late City Mayor Vicente Emano raised the Red Alert code, signalling all residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate towards higher and/or safer ground. All major bridges that cross the Cagayan River were also closed down in fears of breaking down or collapse.

Although, Typhoon Pablo is much stronger than Typhoon Sendong in terms of wind speed, thankfully, no reported casualties in Cagayan de Oro with Typhoon Pablo related incident that time, but it still caused over a thousand fatalities accross the country.

From then on, everytime there are typhoons that affects Northern Mindanao, people in Cagayan de Oro City are now always being prepared, a lesson that we learned from Typhoon Sendong's consequences.
