The University of Science and Technology of the Philippines (USTP) is making a bold move to expand its academic offerings by introducing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. This exciting development was revealed during the recent Special Board Meeting of the USTP Board of Regents, chaired by Commissioner Jo Mark Libre, last February 2, 2023.
The proposed BSN program is a 4-year course that will be open to individuals who dream of becoming nurses and working in healthcare services. It is geared towards providing quality education and training to underprivileged students who aspire to become healthcare professionals but are hindered by financial constraints.
To make tertiary education accessible to more students, the USTP BSN program will be offered for free. This is in accordance with the provisions of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act or RA 10931, which ensures that every Filipino has access to quality higher education.
In exchange for free education, the Return Service Agreement (RSA) will be implemented. This requires BSN program graduates to serve their localities or other health institutions in the country for an agreed number of years. This approach aims to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in the country and promote the equitable distribution of healthcare services.
The USTP BSN program has already completed the initial stages of a feasibility study. In the coming months, the program will continue to progress with the guidance and support of Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and the entire Board of Regents of USTP.
The USTP is a government-funded university committed to providing quality education and training to its students. By introducing the BSN program, the university is poised to produce more competent and compassionate nurses who will contribute to the healthcare industry of the country.
This is a significant milestone for the USTP, and it reflects the university's unwavering commitment to providing access to quality education and producing graduates who will make a positive impact on society. It is an opportunity for aspiring nurses to pursue their dreams and serve their communities, and for the healthcare industry to have more healthcare professionals who are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide safe and quality care.
